Latest Research in Psychotherapy:

"The Efficacy of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy"
Jonathan Shedler, PhD
University of Colorado Denver
"Empirical evidence supports the efficacy of psychodynamic psychotherapy. Effect sizes for psychodynamic psychotherapy are as large as those reported for other therapies that have been actively promoted as “empirically supported” and “evidence based.” Additionally, patients who receive psychodynamic therapy maintain therapeutic gains and appear to continue to improve after treatment ends."

Is coming for therapy a strength or a weakness?

Often people who see me for a consultation have been suffering for some time, have considered therapy, but have postponed this decision because they felt ashamed that they need help.

Shame can be a crippling emotion which frequently interferes with the capacity to have success in work and personal relationships. Putting words to feelings of shame is a step toward becoming less inhibited and more confident.

Beginning therapy is not a weakness, but a courageous, positive step toward changing repetitive unfulfilled behaviors into a life with more gratification in work, sex, and play.

Psychotherapy/Psychoanalytic Videos: Youtube channel therapyfortheheart

These videos have been made to give the public some understanding of what psychotherapy is like, and to extend the awareness of Modern Psychoanalysis. Therapists have also found these videos helpful. To quote some viewer's comments on the youtube channel:

I am studying a masters in counselling psychology in Australia and have found your posts very helpful, informative and interesting to listen to.

Greetings, I am a future student of psychoanalysis. You're doing a great job by creating these videos, they really helped me understand what working with people really is like. Keep it up!

Our world needs to remember what psychotherapy is, how it works and how it can help. Relationship and trust are so vital to emotional healing! Thank you for? this conversation.

I am really enjoying the program, I am learning a lot and suddenly undergrad is starting to make sense :)
Our amazing 'Theories of counselling' lecturer Dr Pieter Rossouw showed the class your first posts and that's how I heard about 'Therapyfortheheart.'
